Sierra Summit Academy was a charter school in Hereford, Arizona, near the larger town of Sierra Vista. The school opened in 2001 and closed amidst unclear circumstances in August 2011.
By August 5, 2011, it had been noticed that schools in the area began to enroll former Sierra Summit students, prompting a look into the school's operational status. Three days later, the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools, the state regulator for such institutions, received an email stating that due to the loss of location (mortgage payments were too high), the school had unexpectedly closed without proper notification and the principal resigned. Other issues popped up during work with the school. For instance, Siamak Khadjenoury, the principal, had been stated to have been working in Arizona since 1995, but the only documentation ASBCS found showed that he resided in Utah. Payments that had been promised for fiscal year 2012 funding had not been paid back, which was necessary as they were for the instruction of students in the 2011-2012 school year. In addition, the school is not in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission, as their 2011 annual report was never filed, and the mailing address on file for the school was undeliverable. The state has since filed a notice of intent to revoke the charter.
